Terre des hommes in Kosovo marks World Social Work Day
On World Social Work Day, Terre des hommes in Kosovo supported the event "Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing”, organized by the Department of Social Work at the University of Pristina.
The event served as a platform for discussion, highlighting the importance of social work and services in empowering individuals, society, and marginalized communities.
During this event, discussions focused on the development of policies and professional practices in the field of social protection, emphasizing both progress and current challenges. The discussions took place through two main panels, where experts, academics, and professionals addressed the following topics:
- Developments, legislation, and policies for social protection
- The role of professional practice: reflecting on challenges and opportunities for support
Additionally, some of the key challenges in providing social services were addressed, including the limited number of social workers, which affects service quality and accessibility, as well as the difficulties in preventing and addressing the issue of children in street situations, a concerning phenomenon in our country.
Egzona Gashi, coordinator of the Children’s Day Care Center in Pristina, was part of the discussion panel on "The Role of Professional Practice: Reflection on Challenges and Opportunities for Support."
During her speech, she highlighted the work of Terre des hommes in Kosovo in supporting students and social workers by contributing to their professional empowerment through training, mentorship, and practical development opportunities.
She also emphasized Terre des hommes’ ongoing commitment to initiating and implementing policies and programs aimed at improving child protection and strengthening the social service system.
World Social Work Day is marked annually across the globe as a moment of reflection and action to emphasize the importance of social work in empowering individuals and communities. In many countries, various activities, discussions, and advocacy campaigns are organized to address challenges and strengthen social protection systems.
